About Us

The Student Money Management Center (SMMC) is a free personal finance coaching and education resource for Mississippi State University students. We understand that finances seem daunting at first, but we’re here to make financial wellness make sense.

Mallorie Smith

Financial Literacy Coordinator

Hi there! My name is Mallorie Smith, and I am the Financial Wellness Coordinator for the Student Money Management Center. I have been a resident of Starkville since I came here for undergrad in 2011 and have since gotten my bachelor’s degree and an MBA, though I’m currently at the beginning of obtaining a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems and Workforce Development. To me, learning good financial skills and behaviors has always meant having freedom to create a life you’re passionate about. As you start building your life here at MSU, I hope that we can empower you to take control over your own financial wellness.

Brady Gray

Hello! My name is Brady Gray, and I am the Graduate Assistant for the Student Money Management Center this year. I graduated with my bachelor's degree in finance from MSU and I am currently pursuing my MBA. Through my coursework here and my own experience working in the finance industry, I have gained a great deal of financial knowledge that I am eager to share with you all. I am excited to serve as the Graduate Assistant this year as we continue to grow our program and help students with their personal finances!

Hey! My name is Canyon Black, and I am a second-year student at Mississippi State studying Medical Technology and performing multiple research projects. I have been working for the university and have been involved in research projects since my first semester here. During my studies, I have learned much about financial wellness and personal finance in multiple related courses over the past 3 years. I am very excited to be a Money Mentor and help students become more comfortable with discussing money and have more confidence in their own financial knowledge. The knowledge and skills I use now by being a Money Mentor will not only aid everyone I meet, but myself as well. I hope all of us at the Student Money Management Center can help you with anything and everything along your financial journey.

Hello there! My name is Haleigh Clarke, and I am a senior Kinesiology major with a concentration in Performance Fitness here at Mississippi State. Through my prior job experiences and organization positions at State, I have accumulated various knowledge and information that I am eager to share with everyone. I am thrilled to be a Money Mentor this year as it will help me better my leadership and engagement skills for my career. I’m looking forward to meeting, informing, and helping you along your financial path here at Mississippi State!

Hi! My name is Peyton Fuester and I am a junior majoring in Finance and Management. I am the Financial Coaching and Outreach Intern for the Student Money Management Center. I have had an interest in personal finance since high school and I am glad to be getting involved with an organization such as the SMMC. Through my coursework, personal experiences, and other involvements on campus, I am thrilled to share my knowledge with everyone. I have the opportunity to be a Money Mentor and give presentations of various financial topics to organizations across campus.

Mission

The mission of the Student Money Management Center is to empower our students with financial knowledge and resources, so they make informed confident decisions about their money. We provide online and in-person tools, resources and training to students and the community to improve their financial wellness.

Vision

The Student Money Management Center will be a strong community of staff and peer counselors focused on providing the tools, resources, and training to the student population of Mississippi State University that will improve the personal finance skills of people at all levels. The Student Money Management Center will create a strong sense of discovery that will continually research and innovate in the financial wellness topics most important to our audience.
