6️⃣ πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ,πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„,πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„ !!πŸŽ‰ 600K followers snuck up on me while I wasn't looking! πŸ™ˆ My excuse is that I was away at Burning Man last week, so here are some in-theme celebratory pics.Thank you so much to all of you for making our online community awesome! It warms my heart to read the comments you share - we're an amuseful crowd around here, so almost all the comments are amusing, useful, or both.Like me, you're here because you care about making this world at least a little bit better (hopefully a lot better!) and most of you go out of your way to educate one another on AI trends, sensible uses of data, responsible technology, optimized decision-making, and how to be a leader in this ever-more-complex world.Speaking of comments that warm the heart, if you remember how you first came across my musings, I'd love to know!

Go team Cassie Kozyrkov!Thank you for sharing such great content and inspiring me not to follow something just because everyone else is doing it, but to be someone useful. I found my niche in data engineering and in helping my bosses achieve their dreams (or helping them deliver their promises to their clients).Wherever I go I share your articles or videos from the MFML series.

β€œIf you want to master something, teach it”. --Richard FeynmanI'm thinking about this as I prepare my new set of talks for a packed speaking calendar!Speaking on stage is one of the great joys of my professional life. It’s the truest way I know to organize my thoughts and distill complex concepts into actionable, amuseful lessons for my audience. I’ve had the privilege to speak on some truly spectacular stages lately (to see some of them, check out this sizzle reel my team put together for me). It’s a wonderful time to discuss AI and decision-making with rooms full of brilliant minds. Interested in having me speak at your next event? My team and I would love to hear from you! It’s odd when people ask if AI is 'better' than humans. As if it's an entity with which we compete. Humans have always built tools to make us better, whether it’s a bike, hammer, or ChatGPT. Us+tool=doing a task more efficiently.AI’s impact will reach an entirely different scale. But just like the lowly hammer, it’s still humans creating these tools. The question shouldn't be if AI is β€˜better than us.’ Rather, we should be thinking seriously about what’s being baked in by the tool’s human builders. What kind of values, biases, and success criteria are being baked into planet-scale systems that will affect millions of people?I spoke about all this and more in the latest episode of The Augmented Life. AI automates tasks, not jobs.Think about your day to dayβ€”how much is spent on repetitive, predictable tasks? The data entry, the copy and paste coding, the responding to frequently asked questions for the millionth time. These tasks are most certainly on the automation chopping block. But AI won’t replace thinking. True thinkingβ€”the kind that requires creativity, decision-making, and problem-solvingβ€”can’t be punted to a tangle of wires. If you’re concerned about this coming shift, focus on honing your soft skills: creativity, communication, adaptability, collaboration, design, decision-making, leadership, and those utterly human sparks of brilliance. After all, soft skills aren't soft; they're the skills that are hardest to automate.I refer to these two types of tasks as β€˜thinking’ and β€˜thunking’. You can read much more about it right over here: https://lnkd.in/eBTTHsSf

β€œYou shouldn’t let poets lie to you.” - BjΓΆrkIn the AI world, there’s no shortage of poets spinning tales. GenAI is remarkable. It is transforming the way we work. But it’s also *designed* to hallucinate; hallucination is a feature, not a bug. So responsible implementation will take more than hope plus blinkers. Regardless of what the sales reps may have you believe, technology this complex is not something you sprinkle onto an organization for an easy win.I like this recent Fortune article from Sharon Goldman because it touches on exactly this: Despite being overhyped, AI still has the potential to drive tremendous value.Enterprises who want to see AI impact their bottom line will have to first identify a business problem that can impact the bottom line. Next, develop an AI strategy that can be feasibly and reliably deployed.Don’t get swept away by the poetry. Effective AI might not be easy, but today is an incredibly exciting time to be tackling these problems at individual-scale and planet-scale alike. (If this is something you’ve been thinking about, I’m teaching a course on developing enterprise AI strategies that actually drive revenue. I think a lot about how to make better decisions. In my day job, that often means helping enterprises make decisions that drive more value out of complex technology. But sometimes, I like to get a little more meta. I joined my friends Michael Tiffany and Amna Rana on an episode of their brilliant podcast, The Augmented Life, to discuss what decision making really means:- What we mean when we talk about data- How to value gut instinct against β€œdata-driven” choices- β€˜Satisficing’ vs Optimizing- We even got into how studying economics might help you with your diet (!)This was a fun one. We covered a lot of ground so be sure to catch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gjz7eSXX– – PS: If you’re also interested in decision-making for enterprises, why not join my upcoming Maven course? We’re covering all things Enterprise AI Strategy. Learn how to develop, test, and deploy scalable and reliable AI systems that drive business growth. Join us here: https://lnkd.in/egMzRD2h
