Good morning!
Good morning and welcome to The Athletic's live transfer blog.
With less than a week to go in the summer transfer window, multiple moves are heating up as clubs look to conclude their business ahead of next Friday's transfer deadline.
Stay tuned with us throughout the day and don't miss a beat.
Chelsea midfielder Castledine agrees Shrewsbury season-long loan move
Chelsea midfielder Leo Castledine has agreed to join League One club Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan.
Castledine has been subject of interest from multiple clubs during the summer, although Chelsea did not wish to agree to include an option to buy as part of a loan agreement as they have no interest in cashing-in on the 19-year-old.
Castledine has opted to join the League One club after being given assurances he will get to play regular first team football. Shrewsbury expressed a strong interest at the very start of the window, which played a part in convincing the talented youngster that he is truly part of their plans.
A break clause, which can be triggered in January, has been included. Castledine is in line to make his debut against Bolton on Tuesday night in the EFL Cup second round.
Arteta on Arsenal transfer activity: 'If we can do something, we will do it'
Mikel Arteta has suggested that Arsenal may still look to bring in players before the transfer window closes on August 30.
The north London side have already signed defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, goalkeeper Tommy Setford from Ajax and made goalkeeper David Raya's loan move from Brentford permanent. Arsenal also look set to sign midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.
Forward Gabriel Jesus missed Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday due to a “slight groin issue” and Arteta has admitted that his side are short in certain areas of the pitch.
He told Sky Sports: “We are really happy with the squad that we have. It’s true that we had an injury with Gabby Jesus, that we missed him & we are a little bit short, but if we can do something, we will do it.
“But at the moment, I love the ones that we have.”
Arsenal, who have won their first two games of the Premier League season, are next in action against Brighton and Hove Albion at Emirates Stadium on August 31.

Hurzeler coy on Gilmour's Brighton future
Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler says he is "not surprised" that Billy Gilmour shone in Brighton's 2-1 win against Manchester United.
Gilmour came into the team in place of injured Netherlands international Mats Wieffer amid persistent transfer interest from Napoli in the Scotland midfielder.
Hurzeler said: "I'm always very open with my players and, and share my thoughts with them. I prefer not to talk about these conversations to players in public.
"What I can say is that I'm not surprised how he played today because I see in training, I see what attitude he has.
"I see also the the skill from this player, not on the pitch but also beside the pitch and he was completely focused. It's not so easy when someone talks about you or is saying that he's leaving the club to give this performance. So, I'm very happy that he was stable in his mind."
Brighton are close to making Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley their eighth signing of the summer transfer window.
Chelsea considering permanent offers for Harvey Vale
Chelsea are considering offers from clubs who want to buy academy graduate Harvey Vale on a permanent basis.
Vale, who enjoyed an impressive season-long loan at Bristol Rovers last season, is the subject of interest from a host of Championship teams and from abroad.
The England Under-20 international could still agree another loan deal, but clubs have also asked Chelsea whether they would be prepared to sell him outright before Friday’s deadline.
Vale was named Chelsea’s academy player of the year in 2022, an award given to several players who have gone on to establish themselves in the Premier League like Chelsea captain Reece James, Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke and Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount.
He was also captain of the England side which won the Under-19 European Championship in 2022.
Vale has been training with the fringe group containing high-profile first-team players such as Romelu Lukaku and Ben Chilwell while waiting for his future to be sorted out.
The 20-year-old, who can play as a No 10, on the left wing and at left back, made five appearances for Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel in 2021-22.
