How to reach Belurat, Tower Settlement
Belurat is one of the first dungeons you’ll encounter in the Realm of Shadow. It’s at the western edge of the Gravesite Plain.
Head along the main road through the Scorched Ruins. Once you reach the Three Path Cross, take the left path through the giant arc.
Storeroom Key and Door
There’s a locked door to a storeroom in Belurat. Locked inside is an old lady Hornsent named Grandam. She has a little quest associated with her that will be covered at end of this guide. This section is only focused on the locked door.
Storeroom Key Location
You can loot the Storeroom Key from a corpse at the top of the ladder in a house at the top of the (likely biohazardous) waterfall in the middle of Belurat, Tower Settlement.
Storeroom Locked Door Location
The Storeroom is located up on the elevated walkway overlooking the main avenue in Belurat. There are two Shadow Men sniping at you with Incantations of the Spiral, but you can murder them easily and return to the Storeroom quickly from the Small Private Altar Site of Grace.
Well Depths Key and Door
There’s a locked door at the bottom of a well in Belurat, Tower Settlement, that bars entry into the poison area with several items including:
- Immunizing Horn Charm +2
- Poisoned Hand
- Horned Warrior’s Sword (guaranteed drop)
Well Depths Key Location
You can loot the Well Depths Key from
Well Depths Locked Door Location
The Well Depths locked door is at the bottom of the well near the fountain on the main avenue in Belurat. As you leave the area with the fecal waterfall, turn right.
Well Depths Poison Area Bridge
While you’re down there cavorting with the Man-Flies, you might notice there’s a bridge that connects a tower to a little temple that seems like it would be accessible.
The bridge temple in the well depths poison area is not accessible from Belurat directly. You can only reach this area by doing some platforming down from Enir-Ilim, the final dungeon in the expansion. Inside the temple, you’ll be able to loot Euporia, a legendary Twinblade.
Check out our Enir-Ilim All Unique Items Locations Guide for more information.
Weapons
There are 3 weapons located in Belurat, the Bone Bow, the Horned Warrior Sword, and the Poisoned Hand.
Bone Bow
The Bone Bow is a Medium Bow meant for Necromancers. It has a Unique Skill: Racor Shot that allows you to shoot ghosts.
You’ll find the Bone Bow inside the tower towards the rear of Belurat with all of the Spider-Scorpions in it. There are 2 big ones hanging from the ceiling and a swarm of little ones.
There’s also a Curseblade Acetic at a higher level near the final boss room. You can drop down from there, but I don’t recommend doing that for mental health reasons. The closest Site of Grace using the less traumatizing route is the Small Private Altar. Just keep heading west and turn left at the Gravebirds.
Horned Warrior’s Sword
The Horned Warrior’s Sword is actually a pair of Curved Swords, so you equip one and then get dual wield instead of two-handing. It starts with D Scaling with Strength and Dexterity and E for Faith. Its Unique Skill: Horn Calling summons a bunch of horns beneath the target’s feet.
Any of the Horned or Divine Warriors that wield the weapon have a chance to drop it, but it also seems to be a guaranteed drop from a specific Horned Warrior in the Poison area that doesn’t respawn.
Poisoned Hand
The Poisoned Hand(s) is a weapon that allows you to change your skin. Read the lore description if you want to be disgusted.
You can loot the Poisoned Hand from a corpse near the largest swarms of Man-Flies at the back of the poison area in Belurat.
Armor
There is no complete armor set that you can loot inside Belurat, but there is a good farming spot for the Horned Warrior Armor Set, and you will get the Divine Beast Head after beating the boss here.
Horned Warrior Armor Set
Individual pieces of the Horned Warrior armor set, including the Horned Warrior’s Sword (Curved Sword), have a chance to drop from Horned Warriors.
The Horned Warrior Helm has special properties like the other horned helms. It grants +5 Strength, but reduces the healing dealt by your Flask of Crimson Tears by ~7%. It also offers no boost to Focus whatsoever and reduces your Focus by 30.
One of the best locations to farm Horned Warrior gear is patrolling up the stairs right next to the Small Private Altar Site of Grace (also closest to the Hornsent Grandam) at Belurat, Tower Settlement on the Gravesite Plain.
Check out our dedicated guide to the Horned Warrior Gear Set to see more high-resolution images, lore descriptions, individual item stats and tips on how to make the best out of this set.
Divine Beast Head
The Divine Beast head is one of the heaviest head pieces in the game. It provides +4 Strength and Dexterity and boosts the damage dealt by Sorceries, Incantations, and (Unique) Skills that contain the word “Storm” in their name by ~4%. In exchange, you don’t get any Focus and your Focus is reduced by 59. Your Crimson Flask healing is also reduced by 11%.
The Divine Beast Head drops from defeating the Divine Beast Dancing Lion boss at its Theater in Belurat.
Check out our Divine Beast Warrior Guide for more information and previews on this item and related ones.
Talismans
You can obtain 4 Talismans from within the walls of Belurat, Tower Settlement, including the Crusade Insignia, Dried Bouquet, Immunizing Horn Talisman +2, and Enraged Divine Beast.
Crusade Insignia
The Crusade Insignia boosts your damage dealt by 15% for 20s after defeating an enemy. Like the Exultation talismans, its duration gets refreshed if you trigger it while the effect is already active and it stacks with other trigger effects.
You receive the Crusade Insignia Talisman for defeating Fire Knight Queelign after he invades you in the memorial garden at Belurat, Tower Settlement.
Check out our All Fire Knight Items Guide for other items related to Fire Knight Queelign.
Dried Bouquet
The Dried Bouquet talisman boosts your damage dealt by 20% for 30s when your summoned Spirit Ashes are defeated.
You can loot the Dried Bouquet from a corpse sitting in front of an urn inside a mausoleum past the Belurat Cross.
Immunizing Horn Charm +2
The Immunizing Horn Charm +2 boosts your Immunity (Poison and Rot Resistance) by 180.
You receive the Immunizing Horn Charm +2 for defeating the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in the poison area beyond the Well Depths locked door.
Enraged Divine Beast
The Enraged Divine Beast Talisman boosts the damage dealt by all (Unique) Skills, Sorceries, and Incantations that include the word Storm in their name by 10%.
You can obtain the Enraged Divine Beast Talisman from Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold in exchange for the Remembrance of the Dancing Lion.
Ashes of War
You can get 2 Ashes of War from Belurat, Shriek of Sorrow and Divine Beast Frost Stomp.
Shriek of Sorrow
Shriek of Sorrow grants +5 Strength and boots your damage dealt by 10-25% depending on the percentage of HP you have remaining. You get the strongest effect when you are below 30% HP. Costs 19 FP.
You can loot Ash of War: Shriek of Sorrow from a corpse sitting behind the central tree the memorial garden at Belurat, Tower Settlement where you get invaded by Fire Knight Queelign.
Divine Beast Frost Stomp
Divine Beast Frost Stomp is basically a stronger version of Ash of War: Hoarfrost Stomp in the base game. If you aren’t familiar, you stomp your foot and a bunch of Ice spreads out that damages everything nearby and applies Frost. Costs 15 FP.
You can obtain Ash of War: Divine Beast Frost Stomp from Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold in exchange for the Remembrance of the Dancing Lion.
Scadutree Fragment
You can find a single Scadutree Fragment inside Belurat, Tower Settlement. It’s located at Miquella’s Cross in the Man-Fly district, where he left his left arm.
You can reach Miquella’s Cross by hopping over some rubble next to the entrance at the Spider-Scorpion tower.
Trying to track down those last few Fragments? Check out our All Scadutree Fragments and Miquella’s Crosses Locations Guide.
Revered Spirit Ashes
There are 4 Revered Spirit Ashes inside the walls of Belurat, Tower Settlement.
Spider-Scorpion Temple
There’s a Revered Spirit Ash on an altar at the entrance temple to Belurat, Tower Settlement. It’s easy to miss if you’re still reeling from the psychological warfare employed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and his lackies.
Shadow Jar Belurati
There’s a Shadow Jar Man in Belurat who drops a Revered Spirit Ash. He appears to be lost near the Gravebirds and past the Man-Fly district. There’s also a Horned Warrior patrolling nearby.
Tower Settlement Overlook
There is a Revered Spirit Ash at an altar near the top of Belurat, Tower Settlement, right before you enter the part of the Spider-Scorpion tower with the Curseblade Acetic on patrol, followed by the Stagefront Site of Grace.
Tower of Shadow Stairway
You can find a Revered Spirit Ash at the base of the stairs to the Tower of Shadow, accessible after defeating the Divine Beast Dancing Lion at Belurat, Tower Settlement.
Belurat Boss Rewards
You receive the Remembrance of the Dancing Lion and the Divine Beast Head for defeating the Divine Beast Dancing Lion at the Theater of the Divine Beast near the top of Belurat, Tower Settlement.
You can exchange the Remembrance of the Dancing Lion for either the Enraged Divine Beast Talisman or Ash of War: Divine Beast Frost Stomp with Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold.
In addition, you also gain access to a subsequent area that leads to the Tower of Shadow and a Revered Spirit Ash.
Hornsent Grandam Mini-Quest
Hornsent Grandam is (supposedly) an Empyrean who you meet inside the locked Storeroom at Belurat, Tower Settlement. You can get a few items for speaking to her after specific events have transpired.
You can attack her, and she’ll drop some Scorpion Stew, but she has a fair bit of health and spams the Watchful Spirit Incantation at you.
The Hornsent Grandam is also the one who summons in the Divine Beast Dancing Lion, and there’s some unique dialogue if she isn’t alive when that happens.
When you greet her before defeating the Divine Beast Dancing Lion boss, she will convey that she your guts, including by calling you one of the “strumpet’s vile progeny”.
She’s basically calling Marika a whor* and you one of her bastard children. She saves all her reverence for the Divine Beast Dancing Lions and calls a spirit down to inhabit one for the boss fight.
Once you defeat the Dancing Lion, she will be super depressed until you speak to her while wearing the Divine Beast Head.
From that point on, she will know you as one of the Sculpted Keepers and adore you, so you don’t have to wear the mask anymore. Exhaust her dialogue and she’ll give you the Watchful Spirit Incantation.
I get the impression that it’s supposed to protect you while you reapply your buffs like Blessing of the Erdtree and Golden Vow, but its cast time is far too long, and it doesn’t have enough stopping power to adequately protect you. Instead, it deals a little bit of damage.
If you return to her after defeating Messmer at the Shadow Keep, she’ll give you some Gourmet Scorpion Stew, which boosts your Damage Negation and heals over time. It also looks really, really, really icky, so I just deleted mine.
If you exhaust her dialogue, she will drift off into eternal slumber (unrelated to St. Trina) and that’s the end. You can’t attack her anymore, but her little icon will remain on your map forever. If you reload the area, you can get another helping of Gourmet Scorpion Stew.
